Longtime event sponsors Guiness and Red Stripe are beginning to withdraw support of dancehall and reggae concerts and festivals. Reggae Sumfest, among Jamaica’s largest reggae festivals, has had Red Stripe Beer as a sponsor since its first year in 1993. The Jamaica Gleaner reports today that Red Stripe says its unwilling to continue supporting events that facilitate “violent and anti-social lyrics”. The promoters of Sumfest are insisting that Reggae Sumfest in July will go on unchanged and as planned, and add that Red Stripe are staying on a liquor sponsor.
Our own Mr Bone and his woman Lauren will be attending Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, stay tuned for pics and updates from the concert, exclusively here on reddafire.com
